1. Respect citizen input and participation in Pleasanton's planning decisions. Candidates who encourage an open and meaningful public participation for citizens in Pleasanton's political process, and value consensus among residents over outside interests. Respect is a Community of Character core value to use good manners, be considerate and honor the feelings of others, and deal peacefully with disagreements. 2. Value Pleasanton's surrounding undisturbed open spaces and scenic resources. Candidates who understand that Pleasanton residents overwhelmingly support protection of all the ridge lines. Agreements to build large housing developments on a ridge line, irregardless of how well intentioned with respect to securing protections for other properties, are unacceptable. 3. Promote campaign finance reforms that reduce the impact of ever-increasing campaign expenditures on Pleasanton's municipal elections. Candidates who value grass-roots support over political strategists, political parties, and large corporate and developer campaign contributions. 4. Work to establish residential developments that facilitate public transit and non-motorized transportation, and that achieve increased energy efficiency and affordability of housing. Candidates who support projects that enhance community identity and interaction, with a balance of compatible commercial, residential, and civic uses. |
